오늘날 호주 아보리진 원주민들은 대략 5만여 년 전부터 이 땅에서 살아온 세계에서 가장 오래된 부족으로 알려져 있습니다.  ‘사막의 거장’(Desert Masters) 전은Papunya Tula, Warlukurlangu, Warlayirti and Utopia등의 4대 원주민 부족의 예전과 오늘의 삶을 생생하게 보여주는 작품들로서, 각각의 전시에서는 예술가들의 인생을 통하여 식민지 시대의 다양한 경험을 보여주고 있습니다. 호주의 가장 탁월한 작가들의 작품을 엄선한 이번 전시회는 전통적인 예술적 상징을 현대적 이미지로 재해석하는 기회가 될 것입니다.

Today, Australian Aboriginals are recognized as the world’s oldest living race, having survived for more than 50,000 years. ‘Desert Masters’ offers a fresh insight into the history and contemporary life of four of Australia’s leading Indigenous communities, Papunya Tula, Warlukurlangu, Warlayirti and Utopia, with each work drawing on biographical accounts of an artist’s life, revealing the diversity of Aboriginal experience in colonized Australia. This eclectic exhibition of works by some of Australia’s most collectable Masters is part of a renaissance of translating traditional symbolism in to striking modern images.
