Michele Blondel through her works employing the
myth comments on the clutter of mechanical civilization that is considered the
result of human selfishness. A jellyfish which is called Medusa in the West is
an amazing and beautiful, but often harmful creature. Human civilizations
including their peace and coexistence are now being seriously threatened by the
conflicts between religions such as Christianity and Islam and Christianity and
Catholic, all of which share a monotheistic basis.
While originated from human reason, mechanical
civilization might turn into a massive disaster. If any unexpected accident
like the blast of a nuclear power plant or an airplane crash occurs, an
extremely heavy toll of lives and damages will incur. Even though humans have immensely
benefited from state-of-the-art technologies in the fields of genetic
engineering and space science, they are also confronting a pervading sense of
menace in modern civilization. As indicated by the exhibition title Meduses,
Michele Blondel creates an object suggestive of the crisis of human
civilization.
In a reflective way, Michele Blondel combines the critique of
mythical, philosophical, political, economical and social issues with the
artistic penetration of our times. Her work, awakening our deep-seated reason
and sensibility, meticulously features a link between shape and theme.
